Home Loss in Wildfire

In September 2020 a wildfire burnt 431 homes in Oregon's McKenzie River valley. Our home was one of them.

Before the fire.

Looking downstream from the carport.

Looking downstream from the riverside.

Downriver bedroom from creekside.

The fireplace in the living room (which bridged the creek).

The generator for power outages.

The wood stove chimney in the family room. It had to be that high to reach through the clerestory to the roof.

Wheelbarrows alongside the steel shingles of the carport/garage.

Carport/garage. The two homes across the river and previously visible in the background were burnt and can now no longer be seen, not even the rubble.

Bathtub, exterior hose reel, and exterior heat pump unit.
