Just a quick note to let everybody know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I had to go back to work while suffering from a bad case of hay fever. Sleeping to overcome that while keeping the schedule they've got me on hasn't left time for anything else. Fortunately, the hay fever is finally abating (is that a word?) and I'm due to get a 24 hour break in a couple of days.
I've been doing the most extensive domestic flying I have yet had with Tower. However, by tonight, I will have run up against the domestic limitation of 30 hours in 7 days. At Tower that simply means you are assured that your next trip will be international where there is no 30 in 7 rule. In my case it will be commercial from JFK to Boston and then operate to Paris.
I had a short meeting with Morris Nachtomi, Tower's owner (more than 50% of the stock) and CEO. A captain had turned in a trip report on which he noted that I could probably fix their computerized flight plans to draw lines on them. Currently the F.O.s are required to do it with a ruler—really ridiculous when they could be drawn by the printer. Anyway, Nachtomi thanked me for volunteering to do it and then turned me over to the guy who watches over their computing activities. He and I talked for about an hour about the “lines” and other things. Hopefully, they'll have somebody else do that little task. That's okay by me as I really don't want to get involved in it. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
It's not a pleasant trip right now. I'm flying with a guy who is a real yeller and screamer, and he has a terrible temper. All in all perhaps the most unpleasant individual I've had to fly with at Tower. He's okay when he's calm, but anything sets him off.
Got to go, show time in 30 minutes.
